Eggspressions: An Egg Study on Altering Meaning and Communication
Over the course of a semester, I kept a sketchbook, each week furthering the conceptual limits of a single subject—an egg. This sketchbook explores the connection between concept and communication, while focusing on altering the subject of an egg and its surroundings in significant ways in order to communicate an intended meaning. At first, the study starts out simple so I could understand my subject, then moves on to more conceptual and unconventional concepts as I pushed the boundaries of my subject. Within this project, I was able to experiment with various art styles and ideas to produce traditional, unusual, and humorous illustrations. Through this study, I discovered how context, as well as the substitution and distortion of different parts of each drawing can significantly alter the meaning and communication of the pictures, even when the subject is a simple egg. 7.5” x 7.5”
