Addiction Awareness Editorial Design
Bringing awareness to the opioid epidemic, these magazine spreads incorporate an article and imagery that shed light on the statistics, realities, and attitudes surrounding opioid addiction. My goal for the imagery is to reveal the personal war that people battle with addiction, aiming to end the stigma attached to addiction. I incorporated dehumanizing words often used to describe these people and news headlines highlighting the opioid epidemic, revealing the judgment society often places on people with addictions. Symbolizing the often tragic end to people’s battle, I included gravestones and dead flowers in the images. Representing overdose awareness, the color purple is used throughout the design. Using this color to help with visual hierarchy, I used it to draw the reader’s eye to each section of information while also allowing for the text columns to be surrounded with white space to help readers follow the information in a clear, logical way.
